Free at Last Cats
The kind of day this was for people was a day to honor a brave guy. He was a particular color of guy, and people who were his color could not always do what other people could do, and he got people to look at things in a different way. Human people come in just a few colors, you see. We cats come in a gazillion colors, and no color can be the boss over another color. To get to be a boss in the cat-world, you have to be big and pushy, or have some particular skill, like being cuter, or purring louder. If you are an outside cat, it helps if you can catch bugs or mice better. But people thought for a long time that the pinkish color that They are was better than all the shades of brown that other people come in. He and She believe that that is silly. When They were younger, They went on walks, like a parade, to show that they think people should not be judged by the color of their skin, but in how they behaved and acted. Today's guy made some speeches about it. He said it should not be about fighting, but about being nice. Things are much more fair today because of him. Not everybody believes in that, which makes Him and Her sad. Our beloved President, who signed up today for another shot at being President, is a bit more tan than He or She is, and some people don't like him for that. He and She think that is just foolish. The guy whose day it is today would be very proud of the President, and also of Kate , Kasey and me, because we are different colors, and that doesn't matter. All we worry about is what space one or another of us is in. She doesn't like that there is no mail today because of the special day, but She is glad a lot of people got an extra day off. We are not having a special dinner because of this particular day, but I believe She is fixing chicken, which is OK with me. Be nice to each other, whatever color you are. That's my advice. Shalom.
